Archived Projects

This section of the coursebook is under construction. It will contain projects that are no longer part of the main curriculum but may still be of interest to students. These projects can serve as additional practice or inspiration for your own coding endeavors.

Over the several semesters of teaching this course, I have covered a variety of topics and projects. Some of these projects have been retired from the main curriculum but are still valuable for learning and exploration. They primarily involve working on the backend of web applications, including building REST APIs, working with databases, unit testing, and implementing authentication and authorization.

The projects include a note-taking app, a flash cards app, a post-sharing app, a chat app, and a few others still in the backlog. The frameworks, libraries, and tools varied by semester. For the database, I used MongoDB one semester, Postgres another, and SQLite another. For the backend framework, I used Express.js one semester, Nest.js another, and Hono another. For testing, I used Jest one semester and Vitest another. For authentication and authorization, I built it from scratch one semester and used the Lucia Auth library another. For the chat app, I used Node.js with Socket.IO. The list goes on!

I plan to bring these projects into this coursebook and place them under Archived Projects.
